Von Mahler received his formal art training at the Otis Art Institute of the Parsons School of Design, currently known as the Otis College of Art and Design, and Art Center.
From his early work in the fashion industry, von Mahlerâs photographic work has appeared in numerous print publications and websites.
To expand his knowledge of lighting and photography, he joined Playboy Enterprises Inc. where he was responsible for the complex and intricate lighting set-ups for numerous Playboy publications. The techniques he learned and developed through these experiences have added a sophisticated atmosphere to his work.
In the late 1990âs von Mahler created an exclusive website for the high-end Italian couture industry. As a result, in 2001 as a celebration of their first anniversary, he was invited by the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas to photograph five Italian collections in their Presidential suite.
Besides von Mahler, numerous stars were in attendance of the gala affair, including Sophia Loren, famed celebrity interviewer Robin Leach, campy 80âs rock star Dexter Poindexter and chefs Wolfgang Puck and Emeril Lagasse.
Portions of the shoot featuring von Mahler were aired on Oprah Winfreyâs Oxygen Channel.
In 2009 von Mahler began developing the highly stylized artwork for which he is known today⦠layered compositions combining exquisite female models and exotic scenes from around the world.
Not satisfied with using paper or canvas, he set out to create his own media of exotic backgrounds and textures to support his artwork. His customized media, from toned hand made Sanskrit paper to crushed fabrics, papers, plaster and acrylics embedded on canvas, enhance the work and provide depth to his dramatic imagery.
The exotic storylines for many of his artworks utilize images of powerful and intriguing women throughout time to bring intense insight and intellectual complexity to his creations.
Von Mahler refers to the complex amalgamation of techniques as âMahlerizingâ or the âMahlerization of artâ.
Von Mahler was born in Washington D.C., later moving to Maryland. He currently resides in Thousand Oaks, California.
