I'm teaching a workshop "Photographing the Figure in Landscape," Friday April 30th-Sunday, May 2nd, which will involve photographing both male and female models in the nude on location, near Joshua Tree, CA. There will be between 6 and 9 students total, and the sessions will involve a demonstration I will give, and then students photographing the models in a 3:1 ratio under my supervision.

We will start with an afternoon session on Friday, have a full day session on Saturday, and a morning shoot on Sunday. Models will be paid $600 for the weekend, which includes your per diems. Lodging will be provided on Friday and Saturday night.

Although not essential, my clear preference is to work with dancers, or models with a dance background. Over many years, I have worked with dancers from such companies as Merce Cunningham, Miami Ballet, Toronto Ballet, and The Iceland Dance Company producing a series called "Defining Eden." A number of images from the project, which explores the spiritual connection between the human and the natural world, can be seen on my website, http://www.birnbachfigureworks.com. The resulting images have been exhibited in galleries both in the US and Japan. This workshop will be an opportunity for students to learn how I approach my work, and gain confidence with this rich subject matter.
